Black Lives Matter Rally Participation Agreement

These agreements were formulated by the youth involved with these actions. We ask everyone participating in these events to read through, understand, and commit to these agreements before attending these rallies. They are designed for the safety and dignity of us all. Therefore, we hereby ask everyone to agree that:

  • We will observe with both friend and foe the ordinary rules of courtesy.

  • We will refrain from violence of fist, tongue, or heart.

  • We will refrain from taking part in feuds or quarrels and from creating enmity.

  • We will not carry firearms or any other weaponry, be that for our own protection or otherwise.

  • We will focus our energy and thoughts on those we stand with as opposed to those we stand against.

  • We will not use the oppressors language to describe ourselves or one another.

  • As individuals, we will identify our own capacity for violence, knowing we are not perfect, and are willing to improve our capacity for nonviolence in our thoughts, words, and actions.

  • We will not bring any alcohol or other substance to the rallies, nor will we act under its influence while attending.

  • We will exist in these relationships with openness and a lack of anger, steering our passion to contribute to our group agreements and the greater social movement advocating for non-violent civil disobedience in protest to end all racially motivated violence against Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.

  • Before attending any action, we will recognize what role we are willing to offer, and identify our own boundaries.

  • We will maintain an awareness for why we are here: to support the BIPOC members of our community, to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement, and to create conversation, awareness, and sustained transformation around the realities of institutionalized racism.
